2D Character Designer

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced 2D Character Designer to join the production team on an adult animated television series. Reporting to the Character Design Supervisor, the successful candidate will create compelling, production-ready character designs that support the creative vision of the series and the requirements of a Toon Boom Harmony pipeline. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Develop original character concepts based on scripts, creative briefs, and direction from the Character Design Supervisor. 
• Create production-ready turnarounds, expression sheets, pose sheets, lineup sheets, and related model packages in Toon Boom Harmony. 
• Design characters that communicate personality, emotion, and story through strong shape language, expression, silhouette, and performance-driven poses. 
• Maintain the established visual style of the series across assigned characters and revisions, ensuring designs remain on model throughout episodic production. 
• Create clean, organised, rig-friendly assets that support poseability, articulation, asset reuse, animation, and downstream production requirements. 
• Incorporate creative and technical feedback while meeting production schedules and deadlines. 

Profile: 

• Minimum 3–5 years of professional character design experience in animation production. 
• Demonstrated ability to work within an established design style and maintain consistency across a large recurring cast and episodic production. 
• Strong portfolio demonstrating character exploration, model sheets, turnarounds, expressions, poses, and production-ready character packages. 
• Proficiency in Toon Boom Harmony  
• Strong understanding of anatomy, gesture drawing, perspective, composition, form, colour theory, shape language, and character appeal. 
• Strong understanding of cut-out animation design, including poseability, articulation, asset reuse, and rig-friendly construction. 
• Strong communication, collaboration, organisation, and time-management skills, with the ability to respond constructively to feedback.
