Prop Designer

Job Description

Location: North Hollywood, California (Hybrid/Remote)

Department: Design

Reports To: Art Director / Design Lead

Position Summary

The Prop Designer is responsible for all design assets outside of character and background elements for all episodes. This role works closely with the art director, episodic directors, design team, and show leadership. The ideal candidate is able to design a variety of props and models while staying on model with the existing show.

Key Responsibilities

• Design props based on story elements and script descriptions keeping consistent with the look and style of the series
• Creating multiple concept designs for each prop, seeing what various versions of the same asset may look like in scene
• Work closely with the production and color team to provide clean designs in a timely manner for shipping
• Collaborate with the art director to resolve any design issues that arise in the process of production
• Follow previously established guidelines to keep consistency across episodes and seasons of the show
• Adhere closely to production schedule to ensure efficient and timely production

Qualifications & Skills

• 1–3 years of experience as a prop designer, or similar model designer
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and follow-up skills
• Proficiency in tools such as Blender (nice to have, but not required), Adobe Photoshop, and ShotGrid
• Portfolio demonstrating your ability to design and create a wide variety of props

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a union animation environment (e.g., The Animation Guild)
• Understanding of episodic or feature animation pipelines
• Experience preparing artwork for delivery to overseas vendors for final animation
• Experience with designing props for 3D and 2D animation

Compensation

• $2,597.60 per week (union rates apply - The Animation Guild)

Work Environment

• Fast-paced, collaborative production environment
• Hybrid or onsite depending on studio needs
• May require extended hours during peak delivery periods
