Animation Storyboard Artist

Location: North Hollywood, California (Hybrid/Remote)

Reports To: Episode Director

Position Summary

The Storyboard Artist is responsible for the visual storytelling of episodes scene-by-scene, working closely with the episode director to ensure consistency across the show. This role works closely with the episode director and production to translate scripts, ideas, and character moments into a compelling visual narrative, keep on schedule, and deliver thumbnails, rough layouts, and polished storyboards. The ideal candidate is adept at shot composition, storytelling through motion, and action sequences.

Key Responsibilities

• Create storyboard sequences that effectively execute story, character, emotional, action, and cinematic objectives. 
• Maintain consistency with the visual style, tone, and storytelling quality established for the production
• Ensure all storyboard revisions, notes, and feedback are accurately incorporated within assigned deadlines
• Follow production workflows and document management requirements, including file organization, naming conventions, and storage procedures
• Assist with additional story-related assignments and special projects as needed in support of the production

Qualifications & Skills

• 1–3 years of experience in a storyboard artist position, or similar experience in artistry
• Strong understanding of the television animation pipeline
• Ability to draw based on an existing art style
• Demonstrated proficiency in animation software, such as ToonBoom Storyboard Pro, ShotGrid, and Adobe Photoshop
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Understanding of staging, composition, perspective, and continuity

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a union animation environment (e.g., The Animation Guild)
• Understanding of episodic or feature animation post pipelines
• Experience coordinating in a team environment
• Experience with action based animated series

Compensation

• $2,987.60 per week (union rates apply - The Animation Guild)

Work Environment

• Fast-paced, collaborative production environment
• Hybrid or onsite depending on studio needs
• May require extended hours during peak delivery periods
