Job Description
We're developing a playful, physics-based game, and are looking for a Concept Artist to join the team.
We are considering applications from all levels of experience, provided that you have demonstrable skills in this field - whether you have professional experience in the games industry, or if you have a portfolio from university or personal projects.
What you’ll be doing:
- Creating inspiring and imaginative concept art, which is also readable and practical to guide and support level design and environment art.
- Bringing the game to life through environmental storytelling.
- Helping to define the art direction and vision for the game.
- Transforming high-level creative direction into inspiring but functional concepts.
- Proposing ideas and solutions for interesting level compositions and vistas.
- Exploring a wide range of ideas and thematic directions, with the ability to propose multiple solutions, which are still cohesive within the overall style.
- Collaborating closely with both Design and Art to problem solve through creativity, and ensure cohesive theming of the levels.
- Providing feedback to design and art to help elevate the game aesthetics.
- Ensuring that the concepts proposed meet design requirements.
- Proactively contributing ideas and feedback to help us develop a great player experience.
- Playtesting the game, providing constructive feedback and problem solving.
You have:
- Strong environment concept art skills.
- A vivid imagination full of ideas, creative spark and logical thinking.
- The ability to transform ideas into pictures for the team to understand.
- A love of thinking-up and drawing fantastical places and environments.
- A drive to create intriguing and expressive games.
- A determination to push the quality and drive forward the game vision.
- A love of characterful games and IPs, which convey strong themes and personality.
- Ideally similar experience on a shipped PC or Console game, (but we are open to personal projects).
- The ability to work independently in concept art whilst contributing to, and participating in, the wider team.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- A positive attitude to receiving feedback and running with it.
- Preferably some character art skills.
If you think you’re Pretty Cool, please apply to jobs@prettycoolgames.co.uk sharing with us:
- Your current or most recent position.
- Any relevant games you’ve worked on, and specifically what you developed in those games.
- Your portfolio, which must demonstrate environment concept art, (we value reference sketches for 3D artists / designers, over vision pieces).
- When you’d be available to start.
- That you’re UK based, with the right to work in the UK.
