Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Environment Concept Artist who excels at designing stylized worlds with strong atmosphere, mood, and visual storytelling for our AA and AAA game projects.
In this role, you will:
- Design environments that communicate story, emotion, and identity through shape, color, and composition
- Build cohesive stylized worlds that feel intentional, immersive, and memorable
- Work closely with Art Directors to translate narrative and gameplay needs into clear visual environments
This is a senior, hands-on role within a fully remote and collaborative studio environment.
Responsibilities
Stylized Environment Design
- Design stylized environments that establish mood, atmosphere, and visual identity
- Create key locations, landmarks, and environment themes that support narrative and gameplay
- Use shape language and stylization to simplify complexity while enhancing readability
World-Building & Visual Storytelling
- Translate narrative context and world lore into visual environment concepts
- Design spaces that suggest history, function, and emotion through visual cues
- Create environments that guide the player through composition, scale, and focal points
Composition, Color & Atmosphere
- Use composition, lighting, and color to define mood and emotional tone
- Explore variations to refine environment identity and visual clarity
- Establish consistent visual language across environments within a project
Production-Ready Environment Concepts
- Deliver clear, readable environment concepts suitable for 3D production
- Communicate materials, scale, and structural logic effectively
- Support environment artists with visual guidance and clarification when needed
Collaboration & Iteration
- Work closely with Art Directors, Leads, and Producers
- Iterate on concepts based on feedback, gameplay requirements, and production constraints
- Communicate design intent clearly within a remote, agile workflow
Requirements
Experience
- 6+ years of professional experience as an Environment Concept Artist
- Experience working on stylized AA or AAA game projects
Portfolio
- Strong portfolio focused on stylized environment concept art
- Clear examples of mood, atmosphere, composition, and world-building
- Work demonstrating narrative-driven environment design
Design Skills
- Excellent understanding of shape language, scale, and spatial design
- Strong sense of color, lighting, and atmospheric storytelling
- Ability to balance artistic expression with functional game spaces
Software & Workflow
- Proficiency in industry-standard 2D concept art tools
- Basic 3D skills for blockouts or layout exploration are a strong plus
Communication & Remote Work
- Fluent English
- Comfortable working fully remote using Slack, Jira, and Notion
Bonus Skills
- Ability to concept environments directly in 3D
- Experience defining or co-defining stylized environment art direction
- Strong interest in world-building and narrative-driven environments
