2D Character Concept Artist

Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in WP. Kuala Lumpur for a 2D Character Concept Artist. In this role, you will create compelling 2D character designs that align with project briefs, art direction, and game narratives. You will develop concept art from rough thumbnails through to polished character sheets, exploring silhouettes, expressions, outfits, and accessories. Day-to-day, you will collaborate closely with art directors, game designers, and 3D artists to ensure visual consistency and clear handoff of assets. You will participate in brainstorming sessions, contribute to storyboarding key scenes when needed, and iterate on feedback to refine concepts. The role also includes preparing clear visual references and documentation to support production and, where relevant, using tools like Blender to help visualize forms and shapes in 3D space.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in 2D art and Character Designs, with the ability to create appealing, stylized characters for games.
- Proficiency in Concept Art and Storyboarding to explore ideas, communicate visual narratives, and support gameplay and cinematic sequences.
- Familiarity with Blender or similar 3D tools to assist with understanding form, lighting, and translating concepts for 3D production.
- Ability to iterate quickly based on feedback, maintain consistency with an established art direction, and meet production deadlines.
- Proficiency with industry-standard digital painting software (e.g., Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of anatomy, proportion, silhouette, color, and composition, especially for stylized art.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams on-site.
- Portfolio demonstrating stylized 2D character concept work; experience in game development or animation is an advantage.
