Job Description

The Storyboard Artist draws a scene-by-scene visual story based on the script and notes from the Director. 

Format: Hybrid/Onsite

Length of role: ASAP - March 2027 (dates may shift)

Compensation: $1690-2100/wk CAD, commensurate with experience and skill level

Hours per week: 40

Work Location: 31 W 3rd Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Y 3T8

Reports to: Supervising Director

*If the work for this position is performed within the geographical jurisdiction of the collective bargaining agreement, it will be covered by that agreement.

Knowledge, Skills and Required Abilities

  • Ability to draw in the style of production.
  • Strong staging and composition skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with Storyboard Pro.
  • Proficiency with FileMaker Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workplace, and MS Office Suite (including Flash, Photoshop and AfterEffects) preferred.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize work to   meet goals and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with different teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced production environment and manage time wisely.
  • Work with limited direction, take feedback and iterate on storyboards as tasks progress according to the schedule.
  • Ask appropriate questions to understand and complete assignments and tasks on schedule.
  • Engage in an open dialogue with production management on any potential roadblocks or concerns in delivering assignments on time.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, e-social skills and professional acumen.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Work directly with director, episodic director, designers, storyboard team and production team.
  • Develop characters through the storyboard process.
  • Implement all executive notes and feedback as needed for sequences.
  • Pitch boards to show leadership and editorial as requested.
  • Work quickly to iterate new ideas or refine boards.
  • Reference storyboard for final designs to make sure storyboard needs are met. 
  • Meet with creative supervisors to discuss objectives of storyboard; what is desired or to be achieved.
  • Address any problems with creative supervisors; ask necessary questions.
  • Communicate progress of work to creative supervisors and to appropriate production staff.
  • Follow accurate document management requirements (i.e., file naming and storage) according to the production’s guidelines.
  • Meet all deadlines as determined by Line Producer or Production Manager.
  • Rough out the visuals first, then finish with tighter drawings.
  • Take direction from director(s) regarding translation of script to storyboard.
  • Communicate with production team regarding deadlines and deliveries.
  • Ensure quality and style of show is consistently achieved in storyboard work.
  • Organizing Storyboard Pro files to series standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial, legal and proprietary  matters.
