We are on the search for Background Supervisors to help bring explosive characters, high-energy action and wildly unpredictable adventures to life with a crew pushing creative boundaries every day. Background Supes will break down animatics into individual shots, planning the screen direction, camera angles and movement, and character and prop placement, while maintaining visual continuity, and overseeing the BG layout teams.
Format: Remote
Start date: Immediate Start (June 2026)
Work Location: Brisbane and Sydney Preferred, Remote considered (Australia Only)
Knowledge, Skills, and Required Abilities
- Experience in 2D scene planning and background layout for episodic animation
- Proficiency in Toon Boom Harmony
- Ability to interpret storyboards into precise spatial setups in 2D space
- Knowledge of animation composition techniques.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high artistic standards.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize work to meet goals or deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality over all matters and proprietary information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Scene & Shot Breakdowns: breaking down the animatic and calling out the Background requirements needed for Production
- Calling out scene complexity, priorities and allocations for BG Layout team
- Complete episodic lead sheet, interpreting camera movements (pans, zooms, trucks), background placement, lighting status
- Identifying parent BGs, and BG Keys, Cut-ins, and layout angles required
- Problem solving inconsistencies in scene layout and conducting final checks for continuity
- Planning the camera direction, and mapping the 180-degree line to maintain visual continuity.
- Oversee the BG Layout Team to ensure all shots are consistent in style and delivered on time, providing feedback and approvals to artist submissions.
- Manage time effectively to meet quotas and maximise output and follow file system process as directed by Line Producer and / or production Manager and Character Layout Lead, Animation Director.
- Keep Shotgrid (Flow) scene statuses and time logs up to date
