About Galactic Fleet

We are Galactic Fleet, a Hungarian game development company based in Budapest. We work in co-development with US game studios on multiple projects, building video games for various platforms. We are also building our Indie Studio, BlueRoof Games, and our first title Looking Up is now available on Steam.

Why join us?

In an industry based on fun, your job should be fun! For us, fun is: solving hard problems, coloring outside the lines, building the impossible, and working collaboratively. Fun is seeing someone play your game on a bus or plane. We value every idea, contribution, and perspective, and will work tirelessly to put those ideas into something tangible in the hands of our players.

The Role

As a 2D Illustrator, responsible for helping to shape the visual identity of the game, creating assets and environments that support gameplay, readability, and emotional tone. Collaborate on creating a visual style that reinforces the game’s emotional goals, supporting moments of reflection, calm, and personal connection. The goal is to craft experiences where players can slow down, reflect, and connect with the game world on a more personal level. This is a hands-on, collaborative role in a small team, and your work will be visible in everything players see and feel.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with the team to define and evolve the game's art style and visual language
  • Produce concept art, style guides, and temporary prototype assets
  • Create 2D game assets — environments, props, characters, and UI elements
  • Revise and iterate on visuals based on playtesting feedback and team input
  • Ensure assets are correctly named, set up, and ready for in-engine implementation
  • Work with designers to support gameplay clarity, readability, and player guidance
  • Collaborate with engineers to meet technical requirements
  • Create promotional and marketing art that reflects the game's tone and visual identity

What we're looking for

Required

  • Degree in Visual Arts or a related field
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or equivalent design tools
  • Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout
  • Interest in narrative and environmental storytelling
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid setting
  • Time management and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Personal passion for gaming

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with UX/UI principles
  • Knowledge of technical art or implementation workflows
  • Experience with game engines such as Unity or Godot
  • Previous experience working on game titles
  • Ability to match and extend an existing visual style

Your Impact

You'll own the visual quality and clarity of the game experience. Ensuring art supports both player understanding and emotional engagement. You'll also own your own professional growth: researching, playing, and studying to sharpen your craft, then sharing what you learn with the team.

What we offer

  • Full-time position (40h/week)
  • Hybrid work: mix of in-office (Budapest) and remote
  • Office in a well-connected, frequented area of Budapest
  • Deep, hands-on exposure to professional game development pipelines
  • Learning opportunities through mentorship and courses
  • A small team where your contributions are seen, valued, and shipped
  • An international work environment
