Peekaboo Animation is growing, and we're looking for a talented, passionate Background Layout Lead to join our creative team. You'll be working on our exciting new series The Triplets, helping us craft high-quality, engaging content for kids and youth audiences worldwide.

About the Role

As a BG Layout Lead at Peekaboo, your primary responsibility will be to guide the BG Layouts team and act as the first point of contact between the team and the BG Layout Supervisor. You'll maintain visual coherence, technical accuracy and timely delivery of all background layouts across the production pipeline, working closely with the BG Layout Supervisor, the Art Director and the Production Team. What You'll Be Doing

• Lead, mentor and supervise a team of BG Layout artists, distributing tasks and monitoring progress and quality across line and color work.
• Translate storyboards into actionable layout breakdowns for the team to follow.
• Establish and maintain layout standards, structures and naming conventions across episodes to ensure consistency.
• Document new workflow best practices into our internal wiki for further reference.
• Review and approve layout work before it reaches the BG Layout Supervisor, providing constructive feedback to the team.
• Solve staging, perspective and continuity issues that arise during the Storyboard phase.
• Work with Production to plan the schedule, anticipate bottlenecks and meet episodic deadlines.
• Liaise with co-production partners to match style and quality across the entire project, ensuring deliverables meet our internal standards.
• Maintain proper file organization, naming conventions and version control within our production tracking software (ShotGrid / Flow Production Tracking).
• Participate in pipeline tests and provide feedback to improve the efficiency of the BG Layout department.
• Perform additional BG Layout work to support the team.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of professional studio experience as a BG Layout Artist.
• Strong proficiency in 2D animation shows using Toon Boom Harmony.
• Expert-level experience in Adobe Photoshop, with solid drawing skills and the ability to adapt to different visual styles.
• A solid understanding of perspective, composition, staging and cinematic language.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.
• A keen eye for detail and a creative approach to problem-solving.
• Experience with production tracking software like ShotGrid/Flow Production Tracking is a plus.
• Working proficiency in English and Spanish; Catalan is a plus.
• Must be a freelancer based in the EU.
