Boulder Media is on the lookout for a 2D FX Animator. It is a full-time, specified-purpose role with hybrid working arrangements (i.e., remote and in-studio working). The successful candidate will be available to start immediately. The closing date for applications is the 6th of April 2026.

About the role 

The primary role of the 2D FX Animator is to ensure the Animation Director, FX Supervisor, and FX Lead's direction is being met from Animatic to Final Animation. The role involves animating with care and consideration and maintaining the required style and quality of animation while hitting deadlines. 

Skills & Other Requirements 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop a clear understanding of the show being produced by watching the animatics and studying the provided reference material, which provides you with an understanding of the tone of the show. 
  • Designing FX appropriate to the style of the show, keeping colour, scale, and technical specifications in mind throughout and in a timely manner. 
  • Ensuring work files and folders are organised efficiently. 
  • Follow all file naming conventions and set up all files in line with the established production system. 
  • Utilise FX concepts and video libraries when creating new FX. 
  • Identify and reuse existing effects where necessary. 
  • Ensure work is completed on schedule and to production standards. 
  • Review workload and communicate any issues to the FX Lead. 
  • Complete retakes in a timely manner to the highest standard.   
  • Propose and use creative solutions for FX that match the quality and expectations of the production. 
  • As part of your continuous development, you are expected to keep up to date with the latest initiatives and developments in your area of expertise/role, such as (but not limited to) training, learning and development initiatives, and mentoring.  
  • Any other duties company management may, from time to time, deem necessary and reasonably require. 

What would we look for? 

  • Prior FX Animation experience is essential. A showreel and portfolio that demonstrates your skills in animation will be required. 
  • A strong grasp of the basic FX animation fundamentals. 
  • Problem-solving skills. 
  • A great work ethic. 
  • Solid drawing skills. 
  • Be able to work to a weekly quota. 
  • Be detail-oriented. 
  • Be able to work within/to a production schedule. 
  • Good interpersonal skills. 
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
