Senior Character Artist

Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Character Artist with strong experience in Unity3D, mobile platforms, and stylized art. In this role you will be responsible for creating high-quality, optimized character art that performs well on mobile devices while maintaining artistic excellence and visual clarity.
You will work across character creation pipelines, collaborate closely with technical and gameplay teams, and help define art standards for stylized character content. This is a senior-level role with influence on artistic direction, workflows, and quality benchmarks within a fully remote studio environment.
Key Responsibilities
Character Art Creation
- Produce polished, gameplay-ready stylized characters with strong silhouette, appeal, and personality
- Model, UV, texture, and shade character assets optimized for Unity3D mobile platforms
- Balance art quality with performance constraints including memory, draw calls, and battery considerations
Unity3D Integration
- Import and set up characters in Unity3D, ensuring correct materials, shaders, LODs, and lighting
- Work with animation and technical art teams to ensure characters function correctly with rigs and gameplay systems
- Troubleshoot visual and performance issues in-engine
Optimization & Pipeline
- Define and uphold technical art standards for stylized characters across mobile workflows
- Create and document best practices for asset optimization, texture pipelines, shader setups, and prefab structures
- Collaborate with technical artists to refine tooling for mobile art workflows
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Work closely with designers, animators, technical artists, and programmers in a remote setup
- Offer guidance and review art from other artists to uphold visual and technical quality
- Contribute to art documentation, naming conventions, and quality benchmarks
Requirements
Experience
- 5+ years professional experience as a character artist in the games industry
- Proven experience shipping stylized game content, preferably for Unity3D and mobile platforms
Artistic Skills
- Excellent stylized character modeling and texturing skills
- Strong understanding of form, anatomy stylization, color, and visual readability
- Deep knowledge of real-time constraints impacting characters on mobile
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with Unity3D workflows
- Experience optimizing characters for mobile platforms (texture atlases, efficient shading, batching)
- Comfort working with tools like Blender, Maya, Substance Painter, or similar
Mindset & Communication
- Problem-solving focus with an eye for artistic and technical detail
- Clear communicator with experience working in a fully remote, cross-disciplinary team
- Fluent English both written and spoken
Bonus Skills
- Experience mentoring or leading other artists
- Familiarity with shader graphs or custom shaders for stylized looks
- Knowledge of procedural tools or automation to speed art workflows
