Background Style: Mostly has a lineless painterly style but Artists will be responsible for Layouts as well as Paint

Approx Start Date: Mid March - Late March (Staggered start dates)

Approx End Date: Late May - Early June 2026 (Staggered end dates)

General Info: Unannounced adult animation project being worked on for Green Street Pictures and Adult Swim.

Application Requirements

• 2 + years studio experience in a Backgrounds role essential.
• Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop (or similar software)
• Experience with limited/economically animated projects preferred.

Job Description

Summary

• As Background Artist you are responsible for delivering backgrounds (line and paint) in the required format to be used on screen.

Role specific responsibilities

• Assess the full relevant animatic and familiarise yourself with your own assignment in context.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the style and expectations of the project from the outset.
• Ensure you understand and are adhering to the tracking, approval, filing and naming systems as outlined by the Production team.
• Work with your lead/supervisor to make sure you understand and can action all feedback and retake notes you receive.
• Ensure that you are fully aware of all relevant deadlines.
• Be fully aware of all set up and delivery requirements for your role and be conscious of the needs of subsequent departments through the pipeline.
• Report to your supervisor and/or lead on a regular basis to update them on your progress and highlight any potential issues that may affect your productivity or deadlines. 
• Communicate and share best practices with the rest of your team where possible. 
• Log your working hours to ensure you are working within an appropriate time frame.

Studio Meala requirements

• Work with Studio Meala to uphold our culture and goals of fairness and sustainability
• It is your responsibility to stay up to date with the latest developments in tools and software as required for your role within a given pipeline.
• While Studio Meala supports some flexibility with regard to work hours, you are expected to fulfil your contracted hours and communicate clearly with your manager to agree start and finish times. You are also required to document your start and finish time daily. You must ensure you are available for all team meetings relevant to your role.
• If you require Studio Meala to supply you with any equipment to fulfil your role, we ask that you treat said equipment with care and return it once your contract has ended with the studio.
• It is your responsibility to follow all required file management systems. Naming conventions and processes will be outlined to you by your manager or a member of the production team and must be adhered to.
• If you are assigned a physical workspace in the Studio Meala office, you must ensure it is kept clean and tidy.
• While we endeavor to facilitate “postmortem” on completion of a project to assess its successes and issues, we encourage you to flag issues or potential improvements mid-production with the management team.
