Job Description

BareBones is a small independent studio based in France. We are currently working on Project Tempo, a roguelike rhythm game inspired by Patapon in which the player commands a small team of pirates using musical sequences, in a cute and fun universe.

The role

We're looking for a 2D Lead Artist to play a central role in the project. We want to find someone to whom we can give real creative freedom, so that together we can build a strong, coherent and assertive artistic direction.

The Lead Artist will be responsible for the game's art, and will be able to explore, iterate and push forward an artistic vision that reflects his or her own style. We’re looking for a specific style:

  • Colorful
  • Fun and light-hearted
  • Cute
  • Goofy
  • Dynamic
  • Stylized

We'd like to find someone who already works naturally in this area, and who wants to continue exploring this type of universe with us.

Your tasks

  • Take charge of and develop Project Tempo's art direction
  • Create 2D assets and 2D animation
  • Integrate assets into Unreal Engine 5, in direct collaboration with developers
  • Participate in creative discussions (gameplay, game identity, sound design, etc.)

Profile required

Essential

  • Very good art / 2D illustration skills
  • Strong, identifiable visual style
  • Good remote communication skills
  • Ability to pitch, explore and iterate
  • At ease in an indie environment with a small team
  • Willingness to get involved beyond simple asset production

Big plus

  • Experience with Unreal Engine (or a real desire to get hands-on with the engine)
  • Experience in integrating assets into a game engine
  • Knowledge of VFX, visual effects, 2D shaders
  • Interest in other facets of game creation and creative discussions

What we offer

  • Full-time, fully remote position
  • 6-month fixed-term contract to start
  • A small, friendly team open to ideas
  • A great deal of artistic freedom, with a real impact on the game's identity
