Job Description
Titmouse is seeking 90's style Character Designers for a variety of projects such as video game trailers, series, short films, and more. We are interested in designers with samples in a style similar to Ninja Scroll, Cowboy Bepop, Street Fighter, Ghost in the Shell, and Vampire Hunter D.
Format: Onsite, Hybrid, or Remote (International applicants are welcome to apply)
Type of Contract: Freelance, Full-time, Part-time opportunities available
Start Dates: December 2025 - June 2026
Reports to: Art Director / Design Supervisor
If the work for this position is performed within the geographical jurisdiction of the collective bargaining agreement, it will be covered by that agreement.

Job Description:
The Character Designer creates and develops unique and visually appealing characters for animated productions, working closely with the art director and other members of the animation team to conceptualize, design, and finalize characters that bring the story and world to life.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of composition, value, perspective, shape language and overall design principles.
- Ability to articulate creative ideas and render designs in detail.
- Proficiency with FileMaker Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workplace, Photoshop, and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with different teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced production environment and manage time effectively to meet individual and team deadlines.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, written, e-social skills and professional acumen.
- Ability to work with limited direction and take feedback as tasks progress according to the schedule.
- Actively improve skill set and abilities by keeping aware of current trends, techniques, and art methods.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Undertake research and information gathering prior to the commencement of new designs based on references and direction given by Art Director (basing designs on existing animal physiology, or a specific historical period, for example).
- Create additional character design materials such as mouth charts, turnarounds, special poses, and reference guides needed for animation production.
- Work with Art Director to conceptualize, refine, and design compelling animated characters that satisfy the needs of the production.
- Make any changes or revisions as requested by the Art Director/Design Supervisor and resubmit for approval.
- Resolve a range of artistic development issues by working with other team members (color stylists, design assistants, etc.).
- Oversee the work of Character Design Assistants.
- Ask appropriate questions to understand and complete assignments and tasks on schedule.
- Engage in an open dialogue with production management on any potential roadblocks or concerns in delivering assignments on time.
- Support & maintain the artistic vision of all phases of the series from pre-production through final episode delivery.
