Job Description
The Storyboard Artist is a visual storyteller who can translate the scripts into dynamic, cinematic sequences that define the emotional arcs of the story. The Storyboard Artist conveys the staging, performance, energy, pacing, composition, acting, and rhythm of each moment - helping to shape a stylized, action driven world that balances comedy with visual sophistication.
Responsibilities
- Interpret scripts into clear, entertaining, and visually compelling thumbnail/rough/clean storyboard panels through delivery of finished storyboard sequences.
- Ensure that the vision and style of the show is consistently adhered to through strong execution of action, staging, dialogue, and camera.
- Pitch storyboards to Directors, Crew, and Executives.
- Address notes from Directors and Creative Supervisors.
- Collaborate with creative department heads and production to review goals and vision for the storyboards and discuss concerns, timelines, and complexity, given the parameters of the schedule; Responsible for completing all deliverables on time and according to production schedule and within guidelines/show parameters such as number of scenes, complexity requirements, etc.
- Respond to feedback, iterate, and revise on boards throughout the process.
- Contribute creatively in story discussions to help generate visual solutions to narrative or pacing challenges.
- Ensure that storyboard includes all dialogue, backgrounds, direction, camera moves, and action by making drawings or text changes in description, dialogue, or numbering.
- Submit work that appropriately aligns with production and workflow guidelines requirements (i.e., naming conventions and storage).
- Additional duties as necessary, or as defined by individual contracts.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years storyboard experience.
- Familiarity with CG production workflows and how storyboards translate to 3D Layout.
- Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to evolving creative direction.
- Skilled in Storyboard Pro and Photoshop.
- Understanding of 3D layout integration a plus.
Skills
- Ability to align with style and sensibility of show.
- Familiarity with 3D storyboarding tools like Blender a plus.
- Strong in comedy, action, emotional storytelling, and character interaction.
- Strong staging, composition, and cinematography skills.
- Ability to draw characters and environments on model within show style.
- Ability to write clear and specific direction on storyboards.
- Solid and consistent time-management skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Job Location: Glendale, CA
The pay rate for this role in California is $68.02 to $ 74.32 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
