Job Description

Stairway Games is looking for a Lead 3D Artist to guide and inspire our 3D art team. You’ll be responsible for maintaining the overall visual quality of our 3D assets, mentoring artists, and ensuring that all models, textures, and environments meet the artistic and technical standards of our projects.

Stairway Games is a fully funded private company based in Bali. With creative freedom from a thriving remote team of over 100 individuals from across Indonesia and active founders, we are working to grow our studio and deliver high-quality games from Indonesia. In 2023, we proudly released our first game, Coral Island, and in 2025, we followed it up with our latest title, Funguys Swarm. Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full 3D asset production pipeline across both internal teams and external (outsourced) partners.
  • Collaborate closely with the Game Director and Project Manager to define schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Conduct quality reviews on all assets before integration into the engine.
  • Create and maintain documentation for pipelines, naming conventions, and standardized tools.
  • Lead a team of artists in producing high-quality 3D assets, including hero creatures, characters, and props.
  • Develop and maintain the asset creation pipeline defined by the R&D Team to ensure efficiency and consistency.
  • Work closely with Technical Artists and the R&D Team to maintain a balance between visual quality and engine performance.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring of new artists.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in the game industry with at least one shipped AAA title.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Lead, Supervisor, or Director role on at least one released AAA project.
  • Deep understanding of the 3D asset pipeline, from modeling to engine integration.
  • Proficient in Maya or Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer, and Unreal Engine (or equivalent).
  • Familiar with Perforce, Excel, and Google Sheets for production tracking.
  • Strong cross-disciplinary communication skills (art, tech, production).
  • Solid understanding of topology, texel density, PBR workflow, and asset optimization
