Job Description
Bento Box Animation Studios Atlanta is on the search for an exceptional Episodic Director for a 2D animated series. We are looking to hire an Episodic Director for either in studio or remote work.
About the Project:
We’re producing a new 2D animated series — a bold, fast-paced comedy that’s as zany and wacky as it is full of heart. The show blends high-energy humor with genuine emotional moments, creating a world that’s visually dynamic, character-driven, and full of personality.
We’re looking for an Episodic Director who can bring this world to life, collaborating with our creative team to deliver standout episodes that balance outrageous fun with heartfelt storytelling.
The ideal candidate is deadline-driven and communicative on a 2D Animated project. Must be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and working closely with the Art Director and Supervising Director. Attention to detail as well as a firm understanding of file management and organization are all highly regarded. Must be good communicators, as engaging with co-workers and directors will be an integral part of this role. We are looking for someone who is passionate, creative, motivated, and shares our love of cartoons.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all creative aspects of assigned episodes from script to final delivery of storyboards.
- Collaborate closely with showrunners, writers, and storyboard artists to shape tone, pacing, and comedic timing.
- Provide clear and inspiring direction to storyboard and design teams to help elevate the series.
- Ensure continuity of style, performance, and storytelling across episodes.
- Communicate effectively with production management to maintain schedules and deliverables.
- Uphold the show’s visual and emotional tone — keeping the “zany and wacky with a lot of heart” energy consistent.
Qualifications:
- **Be able to work in studio OR have a remote work set up. Must be in Eastern Standard Timezone. **
- Two (2) + years of professional experience directing multiple seasons of high-profile or network animated series.
- Has previous experience designing characters for 2D Animated Projects.
- Knowledge of Storyboard Pro and Harmony are necessary.
- Online portfolio for submission is required. Please provide password access if necessary.
- Previous experience in a broadcast animation environment and knowledge of a studio production pipeline is highly valued.
- Proven experience as an episodic director or supervising storyboard artist on a 2D animated series.
- Strong comedic timing and visual storytelling chops.
- Ability to collaborate with large teams and manage creative feedback efficiently.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
- Passion for character-driven, emotionally resonant comedy.
- A great sense of humor and an even better sense of story.
