Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Designer (2D) for one of our new animated series. If you’re a team player with a passion for creating wonderful new worlds, we want you… for our Yaletown studio! Both Background and Character Designers are welcome to apply.
The position is in-house in our Vancouver (Yaletown) studio.
The ideal candidate is a team player, a good communicator, and wants to be part of the core team of an award-winning studio. We are looking for team players who can positively contribute to creating the best properties in a fun studio environment.
Responsibilities
- Share ideas, collaborate, and work closely with the producers, creative leads, and designers through the production process to maintain the creative vision, style, and quality of the series
- Utilize key background and character designs from previous season(s) as a reference to create and paint new episodic designs in the style of our series
- Work on art design and colour-styling as needed
- Follow direction and feedback, and incorporate notes from the Director and Supervisors
- Communicate with other departments to assess needs and contribute to a high-quality show
- Manage time effectively to complete designs and revisions on time, and keep Production informed of progress and/or concerns
- Participate in department meetings as required
- Create materials and other artwork as needed for the studio
Qualifications
- 3+ years’ experience as a Designer with a full portfolio of sample work in the field of 2D Animation/ episodic television
- A strong and diverse portfolio that demonstrates your creativity and understanding of anatomy & proportions (character designer) or perspective & composition (background designer), and other design principles
- Degree or diploma in fine arts, animation, or equivalent
- Expertise in Adobe Photoshop and Animate
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively under a strict deadline
- Ability to work with people from different disciplines and cultures with varying degrees of knowledge, and to interact respectfully and professionally with colleagues and other staff members
- Solid work ethic and a positive attitude
- Must be a self-starter who thrives in a small, team-oriented environment
