Job Description

League of Geeks is hiring a talented animator with strong traditional 2D art and animation skills for our new project.

As a Senior 2D Animator at League of Geeks, you will be responsible for bringing our characters and game world to life with your charming animations. In this pivotal role, you’ll develop and deploy game-ready animations to our engine and be comfortable using 2D animation applications such as Spine, Toon Boom, or Adobe Animate, and rigging 2D characters within them.

Soon to emerge from our recent hibernation, League of Geeks remains committed to building a world-class working environment for game developers, with a genuine focus on well being, skill development, community and purpose. So if you’re keen to join the reinvention of one of the world’s leading independent studios as we embark on a brand new PC/console project, we want to hear from you!

This is a full-time, 24-month fixed-term position with the possibility of ongoing employment, though make no mistake, you will be a critical part of the LoG team.

Women and other underrepresented developers, please apply! We pride ourselves on our inclusive work environment and output, so we’d love to work with you.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years relevant experience in animating 2D characters for games, film, or TV.
  • Experience with Spine, ToonBoom, CelAction or similar 2D animation software.
  • Able to set up art, rig, animate, and export game-ready characters and props to the game engine.
  • A commitment to working in a professional, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  • Ability to work independently; managing time, task lists, and workflow with ease.
  • Detail sensitivity, a proven aesthetic eye, and strong design sensibilities.
  • Excellent communication, creative collaboration, and teamwork skills.
  • A passion for motivating, inspiring, mentoring and educating your fellow team members.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior 2D Animator here at League of Geeks, you will:

  • Develop animation sequences for characters, props and environments.
  • Helping to develop a 2D animation pipeline with engineers and the principal artist.
  • Take responsibility to ensure the animation quality meets League of Geeks’ high standards.
  • Work with the creative director to inject charm and character into your animations that bring our game to life.
  • Implement your animations in-engine, ensuring work in-game and deliver upon gameplay objectives.
  • Assist production in setting effective goals and themes for sprints and milestones, coordinating directly with the game director to ensure a unified vision for our projects.
  • Work with production, the creative director, and your team to ensure departmental deadlines are met.

Benefits:

  • Bring your dog to work. Yeah, dogs!
  • Talent development, mentorship and support.
  • Regular self-directed professional development days.
  • Flexible work arrangement opportunities and family-friendly considerations.
  • Menstrual, Menopause and Parental leave.
  • Sustainable working hours, environment and life-work balance.
  • Friday afternoon team social events, including monthly get-togethers.
  • Annual Summer Holidays Family Picnic and Winter Feast.
  • Melbourne International Games Week attendance.
  • Located in Melbourne, the most liveable city in Australia. Fourth in the world!
