2D Game Artist

Job Description
As a 2D Game Artist at Prismatic Studios, you will be responsible for creating visually compelling environments, characters, and assets that align with the artistic vision of our client’s projects. You will work closely with other designers, programmers, and artists to ensure high-quality game visuals while maintaining consistency across all assets. The position is a part-time contract role (roughly 20 hours per week), with the possibility of moving to a full-time role in the future. This is an on-site position for a studio in Auckland, New Zealand. Please note, that you must have the right to work in New Zealand to be eligible for this position.

Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualise and design environments, characters, and props, proposing innovative design ideas and creative solutions.
- Collaborate with game designers and programmers to ensure art assets align with gameplay and technical constraints.
- Maintain and update our client’s game asset library, ensuring stylistic consistency across all game materials.
- Refine and optimise artwork based on feedback to meet the visual and technical standards of the project.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, tools, and techniques, continuously improving personal skills, creative standards and efficiency.
Job Requirements
- Game Art Portfolio Submission Required – Demonstrating a strong artistic style and technical ability in 2D game art.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Game Art, Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in 2D game art, preferably with experience in 2D RPG games.
- Proficiency with game engines, e.g Unity/Unreal Engine.
- Expertise in Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and other graphic design tools.
- Strong understanding of composition, color theory, lighting, and perspective to create visually appealing and immersive visuals.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, able to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Self-driven with a strong sense of quality and an eye for detail.
- Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.
- Proficiency in verbal and written English.
- Excellent time management skills.
Additional Valuable Skills
- Chinese language proficiency.
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Jira, TAPD, ClickUp).
- Experience in cross-border or cross-time-zone collaboration.
